A confident Matthew Hayden said Australia have enough depth in their batting to save the third Test against India at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

After the third day's play Friday, Australia, who trail the series 0-1, were 338 for the loss of four wickets in reply to India's 613 for seven declared. The Australian top order fired with all the top four batsmen, Hayden (83), Simon Katich (64), Ricky Ponting (87) and Mike Hussey (53) scoring half centuries.

"It was frustrating for the top three batsmen to fall after getting half-centuries. But it was a very good day for Australia. We are confident of our batting line-up," Hayden said.

The burly 37-year-old opener, who is finally among runs, felt that even though the visitors are in a challenging situation, the players are confident of saving the match. "We have some good players of spin," he stressed.

Hayden also had some words of praise for Indian spinners, especially for the part-time spinner Virender Sehwag, who picked three for 66. Hayden admitted that off-spinner Harbhajan Singh's absence was indeed a big loss for India.

"Anil (Kumble) and Amit (Mishra) bowled admirably well today. Interestingly, Sehwag also got some spin from the new ball. He bowled really well. He had spin, speed and variation," he said.

"He (Sehwag) is not a big turner of the ball like Harbhajan Singh, but he knows the conditions really well."

Hayden also said the conditions on the third day provided Indian spinners with some natural variation, which was challenging for the Australian batsmen.

Asked how he placed his innings, Hayden said: "Today I really set myself to bat for a long time. I was pretty relaxed and adopted a traditional approach of occupying the crease and capitalised on the loose balls."

On Gautam Gambhir's one Test ban, he said: "That was the judgement of the Match Referee so I really can't comment much on that. But the only thing I can say is that physical contact is unquestionably not desired in any form of game."
