Delhi chase season's maiden win against UP

Less than impressive in their last two outings, a depleted Delhi would look to register their first win and keep their Ranji Trophy Super League campaign on track when they take on Uttar Pradesh in a Group B match starting on Tuesday.

Delhi, playing without captain Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag and Ishant Sharma, have so far notched up only two draws and collected just four points.

In their first match against Baroda, the Aakash Chopra-led side scored an imposing 591 in their first innings riding on a double century from Shikhar Dhawan.

Their bowlers, however, failed to force a win with Baroda escaping with a draw after following on. Delhi felt the absence of pacer Ashish Nehra, who returned to one-day cricket with a bang recently after an injury lay-off.

In their second match at home against Karnataka, they missed Sehwag and Gambhir, when they were bundled out for 154 inside two sessions before scoring 277 all out in the second innings -- again made possible by Dhawan (100).

They escaped from the jaws of defeat with bad light denying Karnataka a win with just 23 runs required from 19 overs in a chase of 172, on Friday. .

Except for Dhawan and Rajat Bhatia, most of the Delhi batsmen have been struggling with captain Chopra completely out of sorts. If Delhi have to win here, Chopra will have to fire.

Right-arm pacer Sumit Narwal has been the pick of the Delhi bowlers having bagged 12 wickets from the two matches.

Uttar Pradesh are no better either having collected six points from two draws and a loss from three matches.

They suffered a huge 185-run loss to Karnataka in Meerut in their first match before drawing against Suarashtra and Baroda.

The Mohammad Kaif-led side collected three points from the drawn match against Baroda on the basis of their first innings lead but could gather just one from the rain-marred game against Suarashtra at Ghaziabad.

Except for Shivakant Shukla and Parvinder Singh, who have a century each to their name, none of the Uttar Pradesh top order batsmen have come good.

Captain Kaif has been out of form, scoring just one half century so far.
