Gambhir gives tips to Pak batsman

Flamboyant India opener Gautam Gambhir has extended a helping hand to discarded Pakistan batsman Nasir Jamshed in a bid to revive his international career by offering him some useful tips.

Jamshed, who has been ignored for the forthcoming one-day series against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi and Dubai due to poor form, recalled an encounter with Gambhir during India's tour to Pakistan last year.

"Last year when India were touring Pakistan, I went to Gautam for some advice on my batting," Jamshed was quoted as saying in pakpassion.net, a cricket website.

"I had made a half century off 43 balls during the tour but had to retire hurt in the match. Then I approached Gautam and asked him what he thought of my batting and where I could improve," he recalled.

India had toured Pakistan last year to play in the Asia Cup and Jamshed was a member of the Pakistan squad for the tournament.

Jamshed stated that Gambhir was very approachable and very sincere with his advice.

"Gautam said to me that he was impressed with my batting and that I had a good selection of shots.

"He told me to look for more singles especially against the spinners, instead of looking for too many big hits. He also advised me to improvise against the quick bowlers, look to unsettle them, go down the track, move around the crease, keep the quick bowlers guessing as to what your next move will be," he said.

Jamshed, who has represented Pakistan in 12 ODIs, said Gambhir had also advised him to work harder on various aspects of the game.

"He (Gambhir) said keep working on different aspects of your game to improve it and that I shouldn't be getting out in the 30s and 40s as such scores don't win matches for your team," Jamshed added.
