When the Ashes rivals met in England in 2005, they produced a thrilling contest. The Englishmen clinched the Urn after a period of 18 years. CricketNDTV.com takes you back to England's glorious victory of all time.
First Test, Lord's: Australia (190 and 384) beat England (155 and 180) by 229 runs
Buoyed by series wins over New Zealand, West Indies and South Africa, England was all geared up for the Ashes and had high hopes of winning the first elite campaign in 18 years.
Fast bowler Stephen Harmison's five for 43 helped the hosts bowled Australia out for mere 190 runs on the very first day in front of a fever-pitch crowd.
But, expectedly England collapsed against the mighty Glenn McGrath.
Test debutant Kevin Pietersen's efficient innings of 57 went in vain as McGrath took five for 53 to dismiss the English men for 155.
Pietersen dropping Michael Clarke, whose 91 helped Australia set England an improbable 420 to win, proved to be the turning point. Leg-spin great Shane Warne and McGrath then took away the match despite KP's second half-century of the match.
