Sri Lanka beefs up security for Pak series

Sri Lanka has beefed up security and announced new restrictions at match venues during Pakistan's upcoming Test and one-day tour, SLC officials said on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in a statement said fans will not be allowed to bring musical bands, glass bottles, tinned food, lazer pointers, mirrors and sharp objects inside the stadium during matches.

"Other than national flags of Sri Lanka and Pakistan, all kinds of banners, posters and discriminating slogans are also not allowed," the statement said.

Heavily armed troops have already been deployed at the team hotel and practice match venues ahead of the full series that starts on Saturday.

"We are not taking any chances," a police official said adding that they are keen to avoid any repeat of the Lahore incident in March where the Sri Lankan team was attacked by armed terrorists outside the Gaddafi stadium.

Sri Lanka usually grants tight security to all touring teams and assigns the task to the Ministerial Security Division which is responsible for guarding visiting heads of state.
