On present form Dhoni is our best and most consistent one day batsman. Sachin was playing down in the batting order when he started playing ODIs. As he developed later into the best batsmen of india he was asked to open the innings. Since then till date he is opening the inning for india and by leading from the front he is serving the country. Why not Dhoni also does the same? At present Mr Dhoni is disusing himself by playing last 25 – 30 odd easy overs on the placid Indian pitches ,remaining not out in many of innings and finally increasing the batting averages . In the process he may of course become false/ projected hero of Indian cricket but not the real hero. Instead of teaching our great top order batsmen by words Mr Dhoni must teach by action . Being at present the best batsmen he should lead by front by opening the inning ,doing difficult jobs such as facing the potent bowling with ingredients such as swing, pace and movements in first 15 overs of the match, determining / defining the wicket, setting / tuning the course of an inning and finally creating increased chances of playing maximum number of the overs. But we know Mr Dhoni will not do this because he is not capable to do the same . A player like him can only lead from back never from front.Sachin being alltime greatest batsman of history of ODI cricket must be given choice to bat at any number in the batting line up . Sachin can bat superbly even at number 5. I still remember master’s unforgettable innings when coming down in a lost ODI against Pakistan how he challenged the dangerous bowler like Abdul Qadir and hit sixes after sixes and brought india to near victory.

Dhoni's batting order should not be fixed. He changes his order as Particular game demands. For example...for the last oneday which India lost, Dhoni should have come before Yuvraj as required run rate was under our control, then result would have been different.

I think there should not be any definite place for player like Dhoni who is so flexible to mould the game according to the situation. He can play any where from 1st to 10th.

Let us leave him alone. A lot of unsolicited advice is being offered. In his normal position in the batting line up, he had a tremendous score of runs in the 2 nd ODI at Nagpur. Let him keep it up and keep to his chosen position! Suryanarayana
