Though the stadium was built in 1975, Vidarbha CA ground hosted its first Test in 1969. This ground has not been a very lucky ground for India as out of nine Tests, they have won just two, lost two and levelled five. In ODIs, India has 50-50 recorda sa out of 12 ODIs, they have won six and lost six.

Nagpur ground also had it's share of controversies. In 1995, during the 5th ODI between India and New Zealand, a wall in the East Stand collapsed, killing 9 people and injuring 70 others. It's pitch is no less in(famous). Once play was called off due dangerous pitch conditions. But the most recent controversy was in 2004 during Australia's tour. The pitch was green and fast that suited the Aussie bowlers. They thrashed India within three days.
