What's your most memorable Sourav moment?

The day you helped India to chase 316 run in Dhaka against Pakistan , I felt within my self "A great leader has arrived " for India. Its you dada who improved the mental ability of Indian cricket to face any challange. I am very very very sad that you have retired... I love u r batting style more than any other batsman in the world. I like to person in the entire universe one is Abraham Lincoln and other is Dada.

   Vinoth William

Dada announcing his retirement even before the series started is quite typical of how he has been - turning the focus on himself and showing the determination to put on a stellar performance, for himself, as well as for the team. I have always loved Ganguly. I have seen how my dad and many many other bengalis adored him. He was in fact the local boy, a brat - when he played well, we were all proud and when he did not, we criticised him bitterly. I could never have the heat to criticise him too harshly. When he was in trouble, I stood by him: I believed Chapell was a villain; and nodded to conspiracy theories about Dravid and Dhoni trying to push him out. Did he feign injuries? I dont know. But then, I dont care. I have faked before to wriggle out of tight spots. Dada's achievements were my own and his controversies were personal, and quite characteristic of my own flawed inner self. A lot has been written about the beauty of Ganguly's game. More has been written about his reluctance to run singles/twos/threes and even more about his ego. I never doubted in my mind that he was a leader of his men - from 2000 to 2004 - he was at his peak, showing us what a captain could do to his team. But what has been most inspirational is the comeback. In the last 18 months or so, he has shown what determination can do! I am sure there were times when complacency overtook his game. But not these days. And the SL test series was another jolt when he was beginning to rest again. And I am happy he is retiring now. Nothing like a fairytale farewell that these 18 months have been. In fact, to use a done-to-death analogy, it was like the last gasp high flicker of a lamp thats about to die. But it had to be - and I am happy this has finally happened. No Dada without Drama. And for me, no life without Drama. And at the end, Dada is also about unrealised talent. He was brilliant, but never the best. He was loved passionately and hated vehemently. Familiar feelings, really!

All through Sourav's career, I have been inspired by his game. He was not a technically correct batsman like Rahul Dravid or a God of Indian Cricket like Sachin. But he was an enigma to whom people connected to. I don't know why he looked the most apt representative to India, often aggressive yet subtle. He gave to Indian Cricket what was lacking in Indian Cricket that was aggression. I'll remember him always as the one who uplifted Indian Cricket from ruins and resurrected it one of the best cricketing nations. Thanks DADA

When he removed his shirt and replied back to andrew flintoff in aggressive manner at Lords .. Thats the kind of reply indians should give to all teams ..

There are so many...needed a whole day to ..183 in WC...114 in Dhaka against pakistan...98 in nagpur on comeback...85 in this series....We will miss you dada sooooooooo much...

Every single moment of cricket that he has played has been memorable for me. He is beyond success and failures for me for the sheer difference he has brought to cricket in India. The heralder of Go-getter attitude in India, the no fear cricketer, one of the most astute and intelligent student of the game who knew how to play his cards, one of the best left handed batsmen ever to have played the game. On the personal front...meeting you in 1995 was the most memorable for me, even though that was before your test debut, but something in you clicked dada and since then there has been no second thoughts about you in my heart, you are my all time favourite sportsman along with Zidane. We will miss you a lot!

dada was touching with his dollar (god dollar) when india played against pakistan in 2003 world cup league match. at that time india got a critical stage. but dravid and yuvi played with fighting partnership to help we beat us. That time sourav reaction was so good as a captain. It was a unforgettable moment. by vadivelu.r vellore city(tamilnadu)

DADA's shirt waving at Lord's was the best moment. One can never forget the nerve cracking performance by Indians and it was all possible because of DADA's determination and his brave character leading the team

   Srikanth Mahavadi

Before telling my most memorable moment of DADA i would like to Salute him for his contribution that he has given for the indian cricket, HE WAS THE MAN who bought the indian team together and he the likely man to be the founder of TEAM INDIA in short. MY MOST MEMORABLE MOVEMENT OF SOURAV GANGULY IS WINNING BOTH THE TEST SERIES AND ONEDAY SERIES AGANIST PAKISTAN IN PAKISTAN UNDER HIS CAPTAINCY

   aravind

My Most memorable Sourav moment is His 131 at Lords in 1996. I was a gr8 fan of him even before he made his debut. The 2nd one is The "Toronto Moment" (Sahara Cup) where he had batted as well bowled exceptionally well n i feel he won 4 out of 5 Mom awards...3rd is the Independence Cup Victory in Dhaka followed by Natwest trophy Winning Moment...and final and the Biggest is The Strongest Comeback man....and that too 'n' no of times..... Besides these, the way he lead in World cup 2003, 2 centuries in Australia in 2001, the way he murdered Anderew Nel & Co in South Africa..144 in brisbane...2001 Border Gavaskar series, his lofty hitting in taunton , etc are few of many joyous moments he has given to all his fans...

once in an international match as India was in a position to win, it suddenly began to drizzle and covers were requested.while all other players were huddling towards the pavilion , the TV camera showed Dada helping the workers to pull on the covers so that the match is not ruined and India has a chance to win as soon as the sun is back. This really impressed me -- he has a winning spirit which got transformed into the Indian team during his time...all the best dada

   Rajarshi

LORDS GALLERY-waving his shirt n slapping back Flintoff on his homeland. That was the attitude required to show the cricketing world that ques can be equally answered hard and hurting as asked.I dont think after that ever since, any oponent dared to give a stare at team India without getting a convincing repliy.Dats Ganguly attitude-SHOW THE WORLD THEIR MIRROR IMAGE.Being a die hard cricket fan, this man transformed me into a Ganguly fan and made me quit watching cricket after his departure.dats his magic-which no sachins,no gavaskars, etc can ever have.

   balaji naidu

In his 12 years of international cricket, he dominated the opposition on his own way. Some of my memorable moments are 1. The way he brought the Indian cricket to new level during his captaincy 2. Famous T-shirt removal in Natwest Trophy final 3. Century in Brisbane 4. Century in Bangladesh independence cup against Pakistan when India was chasing 316 5. Comeback fifty against South Africa. 6. 186 against Sri Lanka in 1999 world cup The list goes on and on.... but one thing i missed is 2003 world cup…. I wish DADA all best for his new innings....We the Cricket lovers surely miss you and ur 6's

Century on debut at Lords. I remember, we at Jadavpur University Old P.g. hostel having a special dinner to commemorate his acievement. Not so long ago...

   Rajiv Das

To rememember any special moment about Sourav is like taking a mug of water out of sea.But if still I am asked I will say about one interview that many people dont know.It was taken by a local bengali channel when he was out of the squad fighting for a place. The journalist asked him,"How do you motivate yourself to play domestic in vacant stadiums,as you are used to play infront of thousands?"He replied something like this,"The wheel of the flag is not always on the up.I Believe that I am Good,I am better than the most."I believe that even in the toughest time of his carrer, this sort of selfbelief has been the key for his success.Best of Luck!!!!DADA.

The Century at Brisbane was the most memorable sourav moment It is always an Australian tactic to demoralize the opponent captain. The situation in which he entered the crease and the way he took india to shores was a remarkable achievement its not just significant to that particular match but to the series and the india Australia rivalry. He is the pioneer of new indian cricket approach. There will be no indian cricket history without mentioning his effort. Best of luck to his rest of the carrier.we love you sourav

There are really lots to say when it comes to DADA, the Don of Indian cricket. He was the person who made the entire world know what captaincy is all about. The time he captained Indian side, the path he took the team towards glory all can never be forgotten. Two things 1 can never forget is the incident at Lords when he celebrated with his T-Shirt and also his test century at the Eden Gardens which was really a treat to watch for all those who love him. The Team may be without him but services are needed the most. Dada will surely be missed by all in this cricket world they left hander who if spinners r bowling n if he charges down the track then its a bang bang bang. Hats off to DADA, looking forward to Kolkata knight riders in winning the next IPL.. Wishing the very best to Maharaja, God of Off Side, Prince of Calcutta, DADA, Don of Indian Cricket................................................................

   Karthik

Nothing can beat the movment of the T-shirt waive off in Netwest at lords.... The best movment of recent cricketing history. DADA we will miss you.

The most memorable moment i really cherish even now is the natwest trophy final and your 183 against srilanka in 1999 world cup. all the best for rest of ur life.

   bharath

Sourav's Shirtless celebration at Lord's is my ultimate moment of the TIGER himself, he made a huge impact at the indian side, i can say the current indian team belongs to Sourav's hard work and his thirst for good talents opposing the BCCI's team selection Politics, actually it was sourav's selection of chappell which he thought that would help the budding talents in the team, ofcourse which troubled him a lot. Kiran More was not a happy man when he asked ganguly to retire and after that he made a remarkable comeback backing up the Man of Series award..that was another Ultimate Sourav Moment We all Miss u DADA and ur Aggression.

   Pubesh

The Making of Huddle: After a loss against australia in first match of world cup 2003,this huddle came in to indian team.. It was Saurav who introduced.... and now its been followed..

   Srinivasan

The ability to fight back when chips are down signifies the quality of an individual like Saurav Ganguly. Hats off to Saurav.. He has revolutised cricket in india with his agressive captaincy after matchfixing horror. Kudos to India's best captain ever.

DADA yes he is the dada of indian cricket, we have folowed him right from his debut when india was only lions at home through the match fixing controversies , and from the stupendous Natwest tropy final to the 2003 worlfd cup and till today where we have crushed the world champions and this whole journey has been SPECIAL due to the presence of the "GOD of the OFF SIDE"

   Mayuresh

His Zero in 2nd innings. He came to indian team with nothing and left with nothing HINDUS BELIEVE THAT EVERYTHING IS TO BE LEFT HERE, SO GANGULY DID THE SAME MULTIPLIED EVERYTHING WITH ZERO

Ganguly's 183' vs srilanka in 1999 world cup was my most memorable Saurav moment.

   Gopal.k

The Prince of India and the DADA of world cricket has made a huge ODI score which came in the biggest stage when he butchered Muttiah Muralitharan and Co on way to a 158-ball 183 at Taunton in the 1999 World Cup.

   Sundar

1998. India-Pakistan ODI international final at Dhaka. Chasing a mammoth score of 315 in 48 overs, Kanitkar seals victory with a mid wicket swipe, India had won a true thriller, with one ball to spare. Ganguly was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his 124 and that marked the beginning of his fighting attitude. Henceforth we started believing that we can also win thrillers against Pakinstan. I can not forget the moment when Ganguly came down to the pitch limping his legs to celebrate the victory and hence it's my most memorable one.

   Nirmalya

After winning netwest series when dada took off his shirt in celebration that was the moment from when indian team started believing that it can win abroad and became very aggressive in field.

The 144 he made against Australia in Australia which eventually sparked fire in other players. This resulted in squaring the series and retaining the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Nation Salutes to the prince of Kolkata for all his achievements......

Sourav Ganguly is a name that has shown how to win like a team. Today, when he is about to retire, it nostalgic and sad to find memorable moments from his illustrous cricket career. It is hard to choose one, as he is such a prolific man of cricket. Till now it is clear like water, that Ganguly was dropped because of all non- cricketing reasons. And everytime he has proved the selectors wrong, by scoring tons and tons of runs. His grateness lies there-to rise everytime from ashes, to show everybody that if you do someting good a small section will always criticize you but major will love you for your contribution. My memorable moments lies, when kiran more the then selector anouncing that sourav should consider retiring and just 8 months later when the re selected sourav receiving the man of the series award for the srilankan series. he showed no extra aggression, no emotion but very quiet, which answered all. It is like-"you throw me out and I know I will comeback again and show that you were wrong". Everybody needs to go one day and so is Sourav, but his legecy will remain forever to those who love cricket and who love Sourav. Bye Bye Dada, you made all the Indian so proud.

The T Shirt event in Lords. He showed it to world that Indians are no more calm characters of patience and pity. The aggression which he pumped in has brought Indian team here. Saurav is a great player and suffered because of Indian cricket politics. When Dravid, Laxman or erstwhile captain Kumble are not doing well, nobody opens their mouth. Indian selctors and cricket administrators should realise that Cricket has reached here because of Cricketers and not because of their stupid administration. Saurav has fought administrators at all levels and I am sure he will come back in Cricket administration one day to wipe off dust of corruption and favouritism. Hail Saurav

There are so many, it is difficult to single out any one in particular.......Sourav was a born leader and had an eye for talent. He was responsible for introducing a winning spirit and a blend of experience & youth in the team. Sourav you will surely be missed and there can never be another Sourav in India cricket!! Thank you for taking Indian cricket to another level altogether from which our current upcoming cricketers draw inspiration.

An eye for an eye and shirt for a shirt. Its the most aggressive as well as proud moment in Indian cricket history. India won the Natwest series and Ganguly waved his shirt to English team (Flintoff must have loved that..!!!!). Absolutely beathtaking. This is aggression at its best. Bravo dada.

When India played World Cup Final in SA..the way Team India played in WC (after Defeat against Australiya in Group Match) was tremendous..each & every player was contributing with heart under captaincy of Sourav..Wining in not the important but the way Sourav & Team played on WC was the most memorable moment for me

2001, India Australia series, team being selected and Saurav Ganguly threatens to quit the team if Harbhajan isn't made a part. 1st Test, Mumbai, India routed in 3 days and Harbhajan is flayed by the critics. 2nd Test, Kolkata, India faces a huge total, made to follow on, but Laxman and Dravid, along with Harbhajan, help India win. 3rd Test, Chennai, series is evenly poised at one all. Last test, goes down to the wire, and India emerge victorious. Ganguly lifts the trophy, and the world begins to see India in a new light. It's not one moment. But everything that Ganguly has ever done has been that one moment. This series paved the way for Australia to actually be daunted by India. Thank you Dada..for everything. You'll always have at least one fan.
