As India closed their 1st innings at 469 in Mohali, my thoughts went back to Kumble's comment on the Bangalore Test. Kumble had said that India had done well (correctly too) to restrict Aussies to 430 on a 600 plus wicket. Here we are in Mohali on a easier turf underperforming ourselves & scoring not even 500. Except Gambhir's, none of the top order wickets were earned. But, as is to be expected, there was only fulsome praise from the TV commentators. Strangely, the commentators were more positive about Dravid this time (he should have been criticized for throwing away his wicket) than they were in Bangalore where he played very well during the most difficult period. I am also surprised that there was no criticism for sending Ishant either. May be Dhoni promoted him looking at his own batting in Bangalore!!
In my view, the easiest way to judge a pitch is by the way Dhoni plays. If he is comfortable, it is an easy pitch (which he was in Mohali). His was the most comical innings in Bangalore on a not- so-easy pitch but there was no criticism to be heard!!!
It clearly appears that Dhoni is beyond criticism, an honour bestowed only on Tendulkar.
