  Profile

The National Stadium has seen sporting epics such as Viv Richard's vicious 181 against Sri Lanka in the 1987 World Cup, or the heart-stopping ODI in 2004, which India won by 5 runs having set Pakistan 350 to win. Here, Irfan Pathan took his first over hat trick in 2006, only for India to capitulate in the end. Several visiting teams have opted out of playing in this populous city due to security fears. The most famous pullout of them all was New Zealand's in 2002, after a suicide bomb attack outside their team hotel left a member of the touring party injured and 14 dead.

One is tempted to bet on India – no matter what the odds – because of their astute leader MS Dhoni. He has shown more than once that he has what it takes to inspire his men to be one strong, combative unit.
